Sometimes being a transformational leader means you have to transform yourself.  This often requires finding ways to disrupt your own current thinking.

Sometimes your team can help you do this.  Sometimes outside experts can come in and do this.  Sometimes just going on an excursion to a customer or supplier or conference can help you do this.

Often I've been able to do this to myself by switching the context.  For example, as I'm working on the early thinking in a book, I'll switch from working on the table of contents to the detailed outline to the proposal to the executive summary.  This forces me to look at the same problem from different perspectives and sometimes creates enough of disruption to let me see something that I might not have seen otherwise.

The beginning of a year is a good time to do that.  How do you disrupt yourself?
