On-Boarding Starts Before Recruitment

Outlook Business India just published an interview they did with me when I was there last month.  They did a nice job of working through much of the big blocks of onboarding (or on-boarding) as they call it.  Click here to read the full interview.

India continues to be a fascinating place, ever-changin right in front of our eyes.  There's every reason to believe that the growth kicked off by the relaxation of controls in 1991 will continue on for a good while.  Many management practices we take for granted in the U.S. are not the norm in India.  When it comes to the most important, most impactful practices (like onboarding), instilling those will help Indian companies continue to grow.  When it comes to those practices that get in the way, not instilling them should keep some of the barriers to growth out of the way.

The basics of onboarding apply to companies in India as they do to organizations everywhere.  If you're bringing people in to work with you, pay attention to how you acquire, accommodate, assimilate, and accelerate their progress.  If you're moving into a new role yourself, get a head start, manage the message, and build the team.
