Even if you’re not familiar with the word “freemium”, you know what it is.

Freemium – Get part free.  Pay for enhancements.

Freemium gets you started with a product or service for free that is complete on its own and then offers you the opportunity to pay a premium for a related offer.

An example would be free entry to a park in which you can rent rowboats for a small fee. The park is a complete and often satisfying experience on its own. The rowboats enhance that experience, but are not necessary.

Sampling – Get complete offer free in limited amount.  Pay for more of same.

Sampling involves a trial sized product or time-bound service offering designed to make you want more of the same thing.

An example would be free access to a park and its rowboats for a limited period of time. In this case, you get a limited quantity of the complete, enhanced experience.
