TED sent out an email this morning that highlighted, among other things, talks by actress Pasty Rodenburg and musician Robert Gupta.  At one point in their talks, each explained why they act or play music.  For each, it comes down to impact on others.

Onboarding others

If you are bringing someone into your organization, investing in their onboarding will help them and their team deliver better results faster and will reduce their risk of failure.  This has a very clear economic and personal impact on the person joining the organization and the members of the organization that come in contact with the new person.  Seems worthwhile.

Onboarding yourself

If you are the person joining the organization, investing in your own onboarding will help you and your team do exactly the same things.  Delivering better results faster is important to all.  Reducing your risk of failure is particularly important to you.

Two-way transformations

At PrimeGenesis, we continue to focus on executive onboarding because of the impact we’re able to make on leaders and their teams under especially stressful circumstances.  Our record reducing the rate of failure and helping new leaders and their teams deliver better results faster is both satisfying and highly valued.  But it is the thrill we get catalyzing game-changing two-way transformations that keeps us going.

Positive impact on others

Net, onboarding is about making a positive impact on others at a time when, by definition, things are in the process of changing.
